Acknowledge Your Success

Success happens here. | emilykristofferson.com

It was exactly a year ago that I started my journey as a full-time entrepreneur.  I had given notice effective April 30th, 2012 at my steady job.  A dream job for some but not for me.  People in my life thought that I was taking a huge leap leaving a job that paid well and was close to home with summers off, the same schedule as my son and no responsibility to bring home but I didn’t feel fulfilled.

I wanted more.

I knew that I would be fine and it’s been a year.  I work with regular clients who I love and there is much more meaning to my work.  Plus, I make more money than I could have earned at my job.

On my first anniversary, I am taking a moment to reflect on how far I have come.  I hardly ever take time to pause.  It is easier to focus on what is next and what more I want to accomplish.  I suspect that you are the same.

We move forward in our businesses by setting goals.  Equally important is acknowledging all that we have done and the steps we have taken.

Consider questions such as…

  • What business goals have you met?
  • What new relationships have you formed?
  • How have you focused more on what matters?
  • Did you finish an important project or develop a product/program?
  • Have you gotten more support?
  • In what ways have you grown your business?

Instead of moving on to the next to-do item on your list or the next goal, focus on what has worked.  It’s a good place to grow your business from.

You deserve to celebrate your success.

I encourage you to make a list of five accomplishments you have created in your business.

Here are my top five accomplishments:

  1. Getting more support in the form of a coach, accountability buddy and a Virtual Assistant.
  2. Growing my client base to full (with a waiting list)
  3. Meeting a financial goal
  4. Finding my rhythm as I adjusted to working at home full-time
  5. Starting and making progress on a writing project… coming soon!

Reward yourself for all your hard work.  This might mean an afternoon off, buying yourself a new book, getting a massage or going out for dinner.

So what have you accomplished?

I would love to read about your success in the comments below!

Wow you should be really impressed with yourself. And I love that you are celebrating. I think it is an inspiration to all entrepreneurs when one of us can turn around and say “hey! Look how far I’ve come!” Hats off to you and everyone reading this and celebrating alongside you!

Bravo! I couldn’t agree more — as entrepreneurs, many of our wins are completely “behind the scenes” — a win with a client, doing something that scares us silly, pulling off something that our non-entrepreneur pals don’t quite get the magnitude of.

Congrats on YOUR success, and thanks for the reminder–

Thank you so much for your support, Stella! This is good to hear from a more experienced entrepreneur.
